Executive Recruitment

Thank you for your interest in the role of Director of LSE Library and Librarian of the British Library of Political & Economic Science.

We are seeking to recruit our next Director to continue the evolution of LSE Library as one of the world’s most outstanding social science libraries.

The British Library of Political and Economic Science was founded in 1896, a year after the London School of Economics and Political Science.  The first Librarian took up the role in 1910 from Sidney Webb, who along with Beatrice Webb had led the early fundraising campaign.

Since its foundation, the Library has evolved and been remodelled as it has responded to the needs of social science educators, researchers and students.  Now housed in the Lionel Robbins Building since 2001 the Library is at the heart of LSE’s campus and playing its role in enabling social science to make sense of the turbulent economic and political landscape across the globe.

We want our new Director to be an active LSE citizen; a professionally qualified librarian who understands academic life and the role of the library in a research intensive university.  If you are someone who knows how to balance being a visionary and inspirational leader with being a pragmatic, hands on manager of people and change then we would really like to hear from you.

You will find further information about LSE and our Library in these pages as well as information about how to apply.
